FILL - FLASH

Actually it sounds strange, but you can use flash to soften the shadows if the daytime contrasts are really high (sunny day, without clouds). Use the flash on the "fill flash" mode. Fill-Flash is the setting in which the flash always goes off, whatever the circumstances are (flash = on). Please note, the flash coverage is still limited to the parts of the scene within 2-3 meters!

If it is possible, adjust the strength of the flash and take multiple pictures with different settings. Check the manual of your camera.
