HIGH CONRAST

In terms of light are roughly two situations: high and low contrast. This is for the novice photographer only so far important, that he/she learns to recognize the difficult situations and, if desired, to avoid these.

High contrasts often mean a challenge for the photographer: bright objects against a dark background or vice versa. For example, a thin white cloudy sky with the always darker landscape or building: or the sky is ugly white or the landscape/building is far too dark.

Without deeper knowledge of technical issues it still remains two options to take a picture in these difficult circumstances:

BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO
The strong contrast between bright and light parts can exploit in unnatural colors. Black and white photos can camouflage this pretty good.

CHOOSE THE SUBJECT CORRECTLY
Decide clearly what the subject would be and use the composition rules to avoid contrast. Is the topic the clouds, then use the landscape as silhouette and place the horizon as low as possible. If you decide to photograph the landscape, try to avoid the sky as possible as you can.

Case study, advanced level: high contrast in the Pyrenees
