LOW CONRAST
In terms of light are roughly two situations: low and
high contrast. This is for the novice photographer only so far important, that he/she learns to recognize the difficult situations and, if desired, to avoid these.
Scenes with uniform lighting are ideal for the novice photographer. All parts of the picture have about the same brightness.
The best situation how you can recognize low contrast: turn your camera to black and white mode. If the same image displays an average grayscale without outliers to black or white, then we are talking about low contrast.
Examples are landscapes without sky in cloudy weather (average grayscale), night scenes without too many bright lights, snow landscapes with little darker objects (light gray shades).
